Floppy

October 19, 1995 - March 17, 2000

Floppy was a very special doggie.  She came to live with Snubby in the summer of 1996 when she was about 1 year old.  The house where she was born had too many other doggies and she had to fight them to get food.  Because they were bigger, they usually won.

At first, she was scared of Snubby and she had to jump up on to the table to get away from him.  Soon, however, they became best friends.  Snubby would always share his food with her and the two would take turns chasing each other around the yard.  He would often end up being her pillow when they would sleep out on the patio or in the Dogloo.  The two of them would enjoy walks with Mom and Dad around the block or, on special occasions, to the Canyon.  Floppy had gained a lot of weight enjoying all the home cooked meals, so she had a hard time keeping up with Snubby, but she tried.

In 1998, Floppy became sick and could not eat.  The vet said that she had diabetes.  She would have to start eating a special diet and taking pills and getting shots in order to manage it.  Her eyes started to become cloudy and she could not see as well as she used to.  Mommie took good care of her and let her live inside her apartment when she had to move to Hollywood and then Valencia.  Floppy guarded the apartment during the day and kept Mommie company at night. 

Through much work on Mommie's part and many visits to the vet , the diabetes was kept under control for over a year.  Floppy stayed healthy and had an enjoyable time living with Mommie during the week and coming home to Riverside to visit Snubby on the weekends. 

Eventually, the stress of fluctuating blood sugar levels and the insulin shots were too much for her tiny organs to handle.  She started getting sick every few days and had to spend a lot of time at the vet.  Early on the morning of March 17, 2000, she went to doggie heaven where she is running and playing happily with lots of other doggies.  She is free of the disease that she had been battling for so long.
